I love how subtly crafted and sophisticated this film is. No flashy special effects, no over the top villain (rather the antagonist in this story is time) and the romance is not shoved in your face.

How refreshing to see straight men embracing this film. It not only shows maturity, confidence and security with your own sexuality (unlike many homophobic “straight” men) but it also shows that when love seems organic and natural it just seems like love, not gay love or straight love — just love. Why are straight men in other countries so much more secure in themselves and mature about gay topics and scenarios than they are in the United States? To be honest, I dont think that theyre any different here but they just dont want to show it. Ive talked to a lot of guys that when they are being open and honest or drinking a lot more sensitivity comes out. Its just that they dont need that in other countries. Its one of the reasons other countries see many Americans as so immature.

Call Me By Your Name was easily one of the notable releases of 2017. A stylish romance set in beautiful countryside of Italy.
The film captures the beauty very efficiently both from its actors and locations. It has some great music in it. But when it comes to setting up these pieces to make one story, it falls short. To be honest, I felt the chemistry between Elio and Oliver seems artificial. Timothee was trying too hard to make the audience believe in his character and Hammer seems to be not trying at all.
The screenplay and the way the film is directed is totally weird and lame, it almost seems that the characters were doing stuffs just because someone told them to do those. None of the characters seems believable. For instance, the scenes involving Hammer and Chalamet seems to be uncomfortable to the point that you can almost imagine someone dictating them what to do from behind the camera. You can almost feel the artifice in their act. The film was filled with such poor and pretentious acting. The screenplay seems to be all over the place, things happening for no reason at all (just to remind, it got an Oscar for it’s screenplay. The plot didn’t seem to be moving anywhere until suddenly everyone’s having sex with everyone.
Everything was agonizingly boring already when finally the two characters say they like each other, the scene in the WWI monument somehow establishes that. Somehow at that point they started understanding each other so well that they didn’t even needed words to express themselves. How did they reach there, who knows.
The film had some great dialogues but the characters were just not written sincerely enough to make us live those dialogues. At the end, these were just great dialogues without any depth being uttered by some actor pretending to be someone else.
The only thing which I liked are the songs. I was waiting for them to come. But finally when these songs gets kicked in, it was already too late to rescue the drowning ship.
This film just don’t deserve the hype it got before the awards season.

I want to describe how perfect this film is. From its story (a perfect adaptation) to its cinematography, to its soundtrack, to its beautiful setting. You can practically breathe and feel the warm summer Italian breeze, but I don’t think i’m qualified to do so
But to anyone who wants to see this film. You have to look at the actors’ faces especially Timothee’s and Armie’s. Observe how they look, and the movements in their faces and how they can display so much different unique emotions in such a small amount of time. You can practically see joy and melancholy and frustration personified in their faces
I’ve read the book and its like their thoughts can be seen by looking at their faces, it’s crazy. I’ve rewatched this film like 10 times already, and it reminds me perfectly on how I fell in love. This is certainly the greatest film i’ve seen in 2017, and one of the greatest i’ve seen in my whole life.
The quality is quite good because it is not re-encoded.

I loved Elios relationship with his parents. Not all teens are disconnected from their parents rebellious all the time. I liked the mutual respect and love they had for each other throughout the whole movie.

Its been 6 months and this film is still constantly in my head. Its an experience just as much as it is a story. It ticks so many boxes. Cinematography, soundtrack, acting.
Thinking back to the father’s monologue, doesn’t that tell us about the great obstacle to Elio’s desire and love for Oliver? How his father recommended not to tear that kind of feeling from his heart, instead nurture it. For that matter, Elio was faced with to speak or to die, and then to admit to Oliver not knowing about the things that matter. And then their 6 short weeks together was an obstacle. I’m afraid the review is looking for some kind of punishment on these two for loving each other, but that isn’t the kind of obstacle the story included. I recommend buying the audio book to better understand that. It is amazing.

Timothee like the 2018 Cullen we never knew we needed. That boy is more porcelain and lovely than the white paint behind him.
Watching this movie made me remember how idealized first love can be and therefore the most painful one. It’s like the summer in the film represents a season, a brief finite time that will eventually end. But the memory of it never fades, even in the warmest or coldest of seasons.
